2FACED
ABSTRACT :: How did the choice between kindness, compassion and intelligence or their antithesis become so complex? Seventeen participants in the 2014 SWEAT Workshop gathered to discuss and respond to bully culture in a 164-page book titled 2Faced. Designers identified specific moments in their own lives that exemplified bullying; those simple acts of cruelty which emerge as individuals jockey and vie for positions of power or relevance in social constructs. The work revealed our duality to help and harm. To say hello to a friend and to snicker at an enemy. To reverse those roles the next day. The following works are our responses of empathy and admissions of duplicitous action towards others who at some point trusted us with basic precepts; friendship, humanity, decency, and dignity.
The outcome of the workshop was acknowledged with a Silver Addy Award from the American Advertising Federation of Toledo in February of 2015. 2Faced also included a special exhibition component designed by Tess Segura and Taylor Rupert as part of the 2015 Artomatic 419! event.
